Netflix is investing in mobile games
21.07.2021 10:13Netflix confirms that it is going into the games market. It can be a way to attract new subscribers, when the increase has leveled off within the movie streaming market.
To begin with, the American streaming giant will focus mainly on mobile games.
Like the movie and series, the company will create its own titles, take advantage of existing brands and license games to fill the library.
Product Manager Greg Peters says according to The Hollywood Reporter that Netflix does not have to think about ads, microtransactions or that every game has to sell.
- We can actually do what we have done on the film and series side, which is to laser focus on delivering the most entertaining gaming experiences we can, he says.
In addition to games, Netflix will also invest in podcasts in the future, and it has hired N’Jeri Eaton, who was previously content manager for the segment at Apple.
Netflix expects 3.5 million new customers globally in the next quarter, which is significantly fewer than expected, and in the first interim report its shown that they gained 1.5 million subscriptions world wide but sadly lost 430 000 subscriptions in the US.
Japan sets new world record for internet speed
20.07.2021 10:38Japanese researchers have managed to send data at a breathtaking rate of 319 terabytes per second - over a three-kilometer connection. That is a doubling of the previous record, which was made by University College of London in august last year.
The new record of 319 terabytes per second corresponds to a speed of 2552 Tbit/s or 2675965952 Mbit/s. This is a big difference compared to the 1000 Mbit/s that most of the internet service providers can offer their consumers today.
With the new record, Japanese researchers could download about 7,000 HD movies in one second or download all music on Spotify in less than three seconds.
Bitcoinminers seized and destroyed
20.07.2021 10:24Malaysian police recently seized 1069 bitcoinminers. What happened then? Well, they were driven to a parking lot where they were crushed with a big drum roll. Watch the spectacular movie below.
That was after the computers, so-called ASIC miners, illegally used electricity worth two million dollars to produce - break - bitcoins. In total, the electricity was used for 1069 servers. It writes the American news service CNBC.
It was after a tip that the authorities in Borneo began to dig into the matter. They then made six different raids between February and April this year, something that ended with the servers being seized. The computers are valued at the equivalent of SEK 1.26 million or about $150,000 and were smashed by the police following a court order.
The film that shows how the hard drives, graphics cards and other parts of these mines are smashed in a parking lot has quickly gone viral. You can watch the whole movie here: youtu.be/c_tcg9kOfkg
