Japanese researchers have managed to send data at a breathtaking rate of 319 terabytes per second - over a three-kilometer connection. That is a doubling of the previous record, which was made by University College of London in august last year.

The new record of 319 terabytes per second corresponds to a speed of 2552 Tbit/s or 2675965952 Mbit/s. This is a big difference compared to the 1000 Mbit/s that most of the internet service providers can offer their consumers today.

With the new record, Japanese researchers could download about 7,000 HD movies in one second or download all music on Spotify in less than three seconds.
