Tele2 becomes Swedens first public 5G operator

On Sunday, Tele2 activated Sweden's first public commercial 5g network. The company thus got ahead of Telia and Ericsson, which presented their new network this Monday.
“Today is a big day when we at Tele2 can present Sweden's first 5g masters in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. I am extremely proud that we are opening the gates to what will be Sweden's first real and most comprehensive 5g network” Anders Nilsson, CEO of the Tele2 Group, said on Sunday, according to a press release.
In Stockholm it will be available on Sunday, while it will be until June 24th before it becomes available in Gothenburg and Malmö. The 5G network allows speeds in excess of 1 gigabit per second, which according to Tele2 is up to four times faster than today's 4G network.
However, this requires that you have a mobile phone with 5G capacity, which most mobile phones today lack.
For Tele2 customers with unlimited surf, the switch to 5G will be done automatically, in Stockholm already on Sunday, Tele2's network manager Björn Lindberg tells TT.
- It's about being able to achieve higher top speeds, and the response time is even shorter. It enables a lot of services that you have only been able to do via fixed networks before, which now also goes via the mobile network.
