Portrait mode for video, new set of filters and ProRes awaits the new iPhone models

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, this year's iPhone models will have three new camera features specifically for video. The first should enable portrait mode in videos. Portrait mode was introduced with the iPhone 7 Plus in 2016 but can only be used on photos. The function can put a person or object in sharp focus while the background is blurred to create a so-called bokeh effect. Apple is said to call the new Cinematic Video feature. Just as with portrait mode for images, data from several cameras and LiDAR must be used to create the effect, users must be able to choose how much blur they want.

The second feature is to give users a better way to control the colors and highlights of their videos. It should be possible to choose between different styles. Among other things, two that give videos a warmer or colder color temperature, while white areas remain neutral. The function should differ from previous filters as it uses artificial intelligence to identify people and objects in videos, the current one applies the same style to the entire video.

The third news is that this year's iPhone will be able to record in the ProRes format. It would give users, like how ProRAW did for images last year, more control over what even video looks like after it is filmed.
